Emergency Department Cardiac Catheterization Lab Diagnostic Imaging
The 2008 QEII Lifestyles Lottery will support a number of programs such as Diagnostic Imaging, the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and the expanded Emergency Department at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, the region's largest primary health care facility.

The Emergency Department, the busiest in Atlantic Canada, is treating more emergency cases than it was designed to handle. The QEII Foundation, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Health, has committed to funding an expanded Emergency and Trauma Centre already under construction. Some of the benefits of this new expansion include an increased number of assessment areas, reduced wait times, improved patient privacy and enhanced infection control standards. The QEII Foundation has committed to raise a total of $4.3 million to complete the much-needed expansion.

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab, where clinicians routinely conduct tests on patients' hearts and coronary arteries, performs over 6,000 procedures each year, along with 1,200 surgeries and an equal number of angioplasties. Patients, as well as members of the cardiac team, will greatly benefit from the acquisition of the latest cardiac technology. Additionally, lottery proceeds will fund the acquisition of new equipment in Diagnostic Imaging, a CT simulator as well as a very special community based project focused on health promotion and chronic disease management.
